The St Margarets Traders Association has published a leaflet that will soon be distributed to local residents. It highlights the Traders ideas for improving the high street without cost to the Council.
“We love St Margarets and care that it retains its village atmosphere and unique identity. We don’t want St Margarets to become another faceless town dominated by the major multiples or allow it to deteriorate to an area plagued by unsightly and vacant shop units. The St Margarets Traders Association has been working hard to ensure that we promote and protect all that is special about St Margarets.”
Ideas include getting a fishmonger and a bakery and adding more retail space on St Margarets and Crown Roads.

Oh for goodness sake, it's a directive not a law, please just ignore it like the French do and get on with it?
Ed on 2011-06-11 15:42:24 +0000I agree Ed!
Seem like the Council should be supporting the traders and helping them find a way to do this... not stop them.

Rather irrelevant to setting up a fishmonger's stall opposite the butcher's. Perhaps someone in the licensing department had recently been on a course and got a bit carried away!
Ed on 2011-06-11 23:05:02 +0000I really look forward to a bakery and fishmonger in St M. The more control the locals have over the area, the better.

The council's newly appointed Business and Retail Champion - Susan Shaw has visited St Margarets to view the proposed sites for the market stalls and to discuss the proposal. Susan has also arranged meetings with those concerned at the council to hopefully help take things forward.
