ORLEANS ADULT Art History

In this 10 week programme we explore the history of European arts great masterpieces, starting from the Ancient Greeks through to the second half of 20th Century.

Each lecture is a self-contained exploration of a particular period and so can be enjoyed as a stand-alone session or as part of the series.

  • The sessions include a one hour lecture followed by Q&As.
  • Complimentary refreshments will be provided.

The Painting Class: Outdoor Painting, Watercolours

Explore the autumn colours in the grounds of the gallery. You’ll learn how to mix different colours and use different methods such as laying washes, wet-on-wet and dry brush techniques to achieve the desired effects of atmosphere and light. The course is aimed at both beginners and those with experience in watercolours.

This autumn join us for the return of Scissors Paper Cloth – an exciting programme of evening workshops designed to get you making and socialising!

We kick o the term with the fascinating and delicate world of contemporary paper cutting. This traditional Chinese artform has been given a contemporary twist and will leave you feeling inspired.

Learn how to work from drawings or templates to create colourful and playful pieces as you relax in this therapeutic craft.

We are running a series of workshops exploring photographic techniques that complement the photographic nature of our autumn exhibition, Grave Goods.

This session offers the opportunity to explore

Grave Goods: Infrared Photography

Arising out of the infrared images included in the ‘Grave Goods’ Exhibition, artist Clive Robinson will lead this creative workshop. The session will include the opportunity to use specially modified digital cameras to record images in near infrared, whilst also sharing techniques for Lightroom and Photoshop to manipulate original image files.
